A fresh streak of green

Cuts my cheeks

Bulbs and shoots sprouting under my feet

I feel them push

I feel them squeak

I sigh

And push myself into the pull of

The evening lull.

A distant sound

A departing song

Rings like lazy gongs

At the edge of this sunny day

Their lyrics blurred into

A soft euphemsim

By the taming distance.

A tangle of vine hovers over my head

The wind issues a leisurely stream

The cool of air

Rocks itself tenderly

At the the sleepy heat of

A quiet noon

Walk softly dear,

The happy tap of your feet

Will shock the little children of nature

To their disturbed awakening.

The day is long

Life is short

But as long as there is

The gold

The green

The strong

The continuing

I shall rock my dreams in my heart

And sing to them an eternal lullaby.
